Description

I present to you the big question-mark nebula in Cepheus as seen from the city of Sofia in the second part of September Y2021.

It is actually composed of three separate nebulae:
- NGC 7822 - the upper cloud formation with a tidal wave in the middle;
- Cederblad 214 - the face-like central part;
- SH2-170 - the dot;

Looking at the big picture one can see how those regions interact. There are a lot of dark clouds and the pillars of creation inside the face (CED214) are fascinating.
I tried the face last year as well with my L-Extreme filter. Now I was able to compare the results with the IADS NBZ. The second one lets a lot more light in and I have captured quite more details in comparison to last year.

The whole composition is huge so I had to make a 3 panel mosaic. I think all parts managed to fit quite nicely and I gathered new experience in making better and seamless mosaics.

It is quite interesting to observe how the star density increases in the region of the image which is pointing to the Milky Way - near the bottom dot.

Wish you all clear skies!
